Biographical Information

Dr. Susan-Marie Farmen is a practicing school leader. She began her educational career teaching, coaching boys' sports, and hosting supplemental programs before leading at the school and district levels in a variety of public-school models in largely marginalized and minoritized communities. She began her experiences in schools as an art docent and later worked in center-based programs in Washington. She has lived all over the United States and moved to Colorado in 2007.

Dr. Farmen is a first-generation high school and college graduate with an undergraduate degree in Humanities with a minor in French and Women’s Studies/Ethnic Studies, a master’s degree in teaching, and a graduate principal certification.  She holds a doctoral degree from the University of Denver, where she focused on school leadership and legislative policy. Over the past several years, Dr. Farmen has published and presented on a variety of topics related to equity and inclusion in education and the importance of culturally responsive educators and educational leaders in schools.

An energetic, enthusiastic, and ever-optimistic professional, she remains dedicated to providing every student with the very best opportunities possible in education by supporting educators in every facet of their work.  She views each day as an opportunity to be innovative and productive, so that every child and educator feels seen, heard, valued, and essential to shaping the possibilities in our schools each day.
