How did the SAHE master's degree program contribute to your success in higher education?
The SAHE program’s robust curriculum allowed me to explore and learn various areas of Higher Education. Because the program is rooted in theory and history while anticipating the future, it gave me a holistic view of how I wanted to portray myself as a Higher Education professional.

Why was the UCCS SAHE program the best choice for your master's degree?
Dr. Mary Yates gave a presentation at CSU-Pueblo about the SAHE program in the spring of 2009. She sold me on the fact that if you decide to matriculate within higher education and make it a career, it would be wise to build on baseline knowledge and understand the relationship a student has between the college and themselves. UCCS was close for me to travel for classes on Saturdays. I made new friends and colleagues within my cohort and still keep in contact with many of them today.
How did the SAHE master’s degree program contribute to your success in higher education?
The UCCS SAHE master’s degree program prepared me for my career in higher education in multiple ways. Not only did I receive a solid educational foundation in student affairs including current and relevant topics impacting higher education from dedicated faculty, but I also gained practical time in the field through my graduate assistantship and the practicum experience. This involvement on campus provided me with valuable leadership skills as well as insight into the inner workings of a college campus and allowed me to put lessons into practice. The confidence these experiences provided is invaluable to me and am grateful for the opportunities I had.
Why was the UCCS SAHE program the best choice for your master’s degree?
The UCCS SAHE program was absolutely the best choice for my master’s degree as it provided me with amazing support from my cohort family, the faculty, and the UCCS campus and community at large. Because Colorado Springs is my home and making local connections was important to me, the UCCS SAHE program provided numerous occasions to connect with other local colleges and their student affairs staff through tours, information sessions, as well as guest speakers, which enriched my personal experience greatly. During the program, I was also able to participate in multiple professional development opportunities and even attended a national conference and met other SAHE professionals from around the country. As a current staff member at UCCS, I now have the opportunity to give back to the program that has given me so much. I look forward to sharing my pride in the program with others for years to come.

The SAHE master’s program has contributed to my success in higher education in multiple ways. On a basic/on paper aspect it has given me the qualifications needed to pursue positions and roles I otherwise would not have been considered for. More importantly, the SAHE program has helped me become a true student affairs practitioner. Every day I find myself putting the tools and knowledge I gained from the SAHE program into my day to day practice. Whether that be student development theory, budget/finance, or cultural inclusiveness, I feel much more prepared to be an effective professional. This has ultimately led to me serving my institutions and students at a much higher level than if I did not complete my master’s degree through the SAHE program.
Why was the UCCS SAHE program the best choice for your master's degree?
The UCCS SAHE program was absolutely the best choice for me. Firstly, the flexibility of the program allowed me to continue working full-time while attending classes on the weekends. This allowed me to further my education while congruently gaining valuable professional experience. The ability to use my tuition benefit through CU and have an extremely affordable, yet quality graduate program, also made SAHE a great fit for me. Lastly, I think the people, community, and cohort model of the SAHE program made it a great fit for me. Working through the program with a cohort allowed for a certain level of comfortability which lends itself to being more vulnerable and open in learning. The UCCS SAHE program also has an outstanding group of faculty members and staff which made it a great place to grow as a higher education practitioner.
