Leadership Development & Coaching Symposium

Background

The USAFA is an educational institution whose mission is to educate, train and prepare leaders of Character for the United States Air Force and Space Force. The Leadership Development and Coaching Symposium experience links to the unique mission of the UCCS Military Leader Development programs designed to service the specialized educational needs of USAFA as evidenced by the long-standing relationship created by the Welsh Leadership Development and Academy Military Training (AMT) Development Program. The UCCS College of Education Military Leader Development programs prepare leaders to optimize performance in the “Human Domain” of leadership and command through providing education in the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) of leadership practices, developmental perspectives, and character-centered role-modeling. This process is often referred to as the practice of LEAD, DEVELOP and MODEL.

UCCS and USAFA have partnered to provide specialized executive training at the Leadership Development and Coaching Symposium designed to expose and familiarize Group Commanders (GC), Chiefs, and other key leaders at USAFA with the essential educational experiences gained by Squadron Commanders and Academy Military Trainers (AMT) personnel during their “Intermediate Development Educational” (IDE) program and certificate program.

The goal of the Leadership Development and Coaching Symposium is to provide Group Commanders, Group Chiefs, and other key leaders with the key educational experiences embedded in the Welsh Leadership Development MA Program and AMT Program. The program supports USAFA’s Strategic Plan by fulfilling three of the six strategic goals: Focus institutional efforts on character and leadership development, provide highly educated and trained Air Force officers, and develop and motivate the workforce.

UCCS College of Education is determined to be the best organization to provide this service to the USAFA in the ongoing 20-year partnership to develop world-class leaders.

The Leadership Development and Coaching Symposium is traditionally held in the early Fall of each Academic Year.
