Biographical Information

Dr. Susan Field has over 35 years of experience in public education. She currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Learning Services in Academy District 20 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Dr. Field began her teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools, Virginia in 1989 teaching fifth and sixth grade. During her early years as a teacher, Dr. Field developed a love of curriculum writing, instructional best practices, and literacy instruction to support struggling readers. In the summer of 1996, Dr. Field relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado where she continued to teach sixth grade and went on to serve as a middle school reading coach and assistant principal.

Dr. Field began her tenure as an elementary principal in 1999 and served in that role for eight years in two different elementary schools. 
She has experience as a district level leader in literacy, curriculum and instruction, professional learning, and assessment. While working on her doctorate at the University of Colorado, Denver, Dr. Field was an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs teaching 
in the Teacher Education Program and supervising student teachers. She continues to serve as an instructor for the Principal Preparation Program.

In her current role, Dr. Field supervises and supports K-12 principals, provides leadership for curriculum and instruction, assessment, professional learning, special education, and oversees all programming in all D20 schools. Dr. Field has led the district-wide implementation of social emotional programming, to include RULER from Yale University, for 35 schools and over 26,000 students since 2015. She is passionate about meeting the needs of each student in D20. Dr. Field has actively developed innovative programs that support career pathways for students and struggling 
readers. In 2021, she led a team to open a new PreK-5 elementary school that provides therapy for students with dyslexia, and during the 
pandemic she orchestrated the development and opening of a Family Resource Center that provides mental health counseling and support to 
students free of charge.
