Biographical Information

Virginia started her career in early childhood education at a private childcare center in Colorado Springs in 1996.  While employed there, she completed her AAS in Early Childhood Professions at Pikes Peak State College (then PPCC) before accepting a position at CPCD as a CPP/Head Start Teacher in Harrison District 2 and Colorado Springs School District 11.  Virginia completed her undergrad work at Regis University, earning a BA in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in ECE as well as her Early Childhood teaching licensure in the state of CO.  She began teaching kindergarten with CSSD 11 in 2007, which she continues to do today.  While employed with D11, she earned her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, Early Childhood Education at Concordia University and her National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist. Virginia began her journey as a lecturer with UCCS in the fall of 2016.  She also serves as a University Supervisor and Mentor Teacher.  She is passionate about advocacy in early childhood education and literacy development.  Her favorite part of teaching kindergarten is being there for the first steps of each student's educational journey and watching them grow and learn every day.  She enjoys working with pre-service teachers at UCCS and her favorite part of that role is when former students become colleagues.

Virginia spent most of her childhood in Colorado Springs and enjoys living there today with her husband, their three children, a dog, a cat and a crested gecko.  She enjoys reading YA novels, spending time with her family, and advocating for educators and students.
